Thus was born KARNATAKA SANGHA. 16th September 1949 was a red-letter day for the Kannada speaking citizens of the then Madras Presidency. Sangha was officially born on this day and a memorandum of the association was signed by Sri V.N.Kudva (the then - Excise Commissioner) Prof.M.Mariappa Bhat, prof. of Kannada in Madras University, Sri Dr.U. Krishna Rao, Mayor of Madras and few stalwarts of those days.
